Topping: A Fun Display Font for Creative Branding Projects
Testing Topping Across Brand Touchpoints
Logo Design: Used for the bakery’s main logo, Topping gave the identity a youthful, energetic vibe. It paired beautifully with a clean sans-serif for subheadings, creating a balanced visual hierarchy.
Packaging Mockup: On a mockup of a cookie box label, Topping worked well for product names and flavor tags. Its boldness made it legible from a distance, and the rounded forms gave the packaging a soft, inviting look.
Social Media Graphics: For Instagram posts and stories, Topping stood out without being distracting. It added a fun, on-brand tone to promotional visuals and quote graphics.
Business Cards: As a headline font on the business card layout, it drew the eye right to the brand name. However, I avoided using it for contact details or URLs due to its limited readability at smaller sizes.
Website Header: On the homepage hero section, Topping gave the site a strong first impression. It helped set the brand apart visually, especially when paired with a neutral font for body copy.
Pairing Topping with Other Fonts
- Sans-serif: A clean, modern sans-serif like Montserrat or Lato created a nice contrast and helped ground the design.
- Serif: For a slightly more classic feel, I tried a light serif like Merriweather. It gave the brand board a touch of elegance without clashing with Topping’s playful tone.
- Script: Occasionally, I used a subtle script font for taglines or accents. It added a personal, hand-crafted feel that worked well for the bakery’s packaging.
